Obituary: James Boyce Raffaldt, 72, of Kannapolis died Friday, March 4, 2011 at CMC-University Hospital in Charlotte. His death was unexpected. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 7 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Navey and Rev. Joey Spry officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, March 6. James was born Oct. 13, 1938 in Angelus, SC to the late Gus and Esther Moree Raffaldt. He was the eldest of 11 children. He was a long time area resident, owning and operating Raffaldt's Used Auto Parts for over 50 years. James loved car racing and was a security guard at Lowe's Motor Speedway for many years. James was a member of Eva Dr. Baptist Church and had been a Deacon at Fisher St. Baptist Church for many years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters. James is survived by his wife of 51 years, Thelma Harvell Raffaldt and son, Hayward L. Raffaldt, both of the family home; granddaughter, Summer Raffaldt of Charlotte; grandson, Charles "Stoney" Raffaldt of Salisbury, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers; Donnie Raffaldt (Deborah) of China Grove and Dwight Raffaldt (Gail) of Kannapolis and numerous other loving family members.
