James Arthur (Jim) Robert

Obituary: James (Jim) Arthur Robert, age 70, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 10, 2016 at his home. He was born August 24, 1946 in Chittenden County, VT, the son of the late Fernand (Red) J. Robert and Annette LaRoche Robert. Jim had lived in Burlington, VT for many years prior to moving to the Charlotte, NC region in 2006 to retire and live the good life. In earlier years Jim owned and worked in the family business, Red Robert's Store and Deli, Burlington, VT for approx. forty-seven years. He was also active with his church in Burlington, St. Anthony's Catholic Church where he worked with the Boy Scouts program for some time. In scouting he instituted a program to cut and sale Christmas trees for the scouts as a special service project. He also served as treasurer of the St. Anthony's Credit Union for several years. Jim loved trains, racing, and camaraderie with family and friends. He also loved playing games like scrabble with his cousin, Pam, and poker games with his long-time friends back in Vermont. His family remembers family members that were very close to him especially those in Springfield, MA. In his later years he took an interest in ancestry and genealogy. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Susan M. Robert. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Michael Landrum. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Finger foods will be served to all after the memorial service since Jim made food service part of his life. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Linda Welch Robert; four sons, Jimmy Robert (Nadia) of Concord, NC; Jeff Robert of Newport Beach, CA; John Robert and Jason Robert, of the home; two grandchildren, Hayley and Aidan Robert; and several cousins.
