Obituary: James Donald "Don" Sheffield, Sr., 85, passed away Thursday evening, February 2, 2017 at his home. Born January 23, 1932 in Turkey Creek, FL, he was a son of the late John David and Lillie Burney Sheffield. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were two sons, Fredrick Russell and William Ernest "Butch" Sheffield, and his daughter, Theresa Davis. Don had honorably served his country as a drill sergeant with the US Army during the Korean War. Mr. Sheffield had retired after nearly 30 years from the civil service as an electrician. He was a member of New Hope Independent Baptist Church, where he played the violin, and was a Shriner and 32nd degree mason in Orlando. A devoted husband and father, Don loved his family and most importantly, was a Christian who loved his Lord. Family members left with cherished memories include his wife, Lita Bost Sheffield; his son, James Donald Sheffield, Jr and wife Mitzi, of Milford, Kansas, 7 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 8th from 11:00-12:00 at New Hope Independent Baptist Church. Funeral services to celebrate Mr. Sheffield's life will begin at 12:00 in the church, conducted by Pastors Roger Bostic and Joey Spry. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, with military graveside rites. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Independent Baptist Church, 555 Neisler Rd., Concord, NC 28025.
