Obituary: James Clifford Simmons, Jr., 48, of China Grove died unexpectedly on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at his home. A memorial service will be held at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel at 4:00 PM Saturday, September 9 with Rev. Nelson Wright officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 to 4:00 PM Saturday. James was born February 9, 1969 in Cabarrus Co., the son of the late James Clifford Simmons, Sr. and Mary Martin Hill. He was a lifelong area resident, James attended A. L. Brown High School, where he was a star athlete. He ran his own landscaping in the China Grove area and enjoyed playing with his sons and their friends. James was a hardworking, loving father who will be deeply missed. James is survived by his sons Josh Simmons (Emily) of China Grove and Trevor Simmons (Michelle) of MD, his grandson Logan Simmons and his sister Lori Cross of Kannapolis.
