Obituary: James Thomas Miller, 74, of Rockwell passed away on Monday, August 18, 2014 at his home. He was born September 26, 1939 in Caldwell County, the son of the late Celo Miller and Alma Barnes Miller Long. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bill Miller. James was well known to many from his days at the race track. He built some of the first cars Dale Earnhardt drove. He spent much of his life at the dirt track at Concord Motor Speedway where he would eventually lose both legs. He didn't let that stop him from climbing up in deer stands though. James and his wife, Bertha Mae would be celebrating 58 years of marriage this year. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Lane Street Baptist Church officiated by Rev. R.J. Hammond. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM prior at church. He is survived by his wife, Bertha F. Miller, daughter, Robin Jordan and husband, Michael, sons, Garon and wife, Cretia, Jeff and wife, Diane, Rick and wife, Dianne, grandchildren, Jeremy, Shaun, Randy, Tara, Michael, Kendra, Candace, a brother, Jerry Long and wife, Diana, a sister, Mary Alexander and husband, Norman and 9 great grandchildren.
