James Grady Wellmon

November 23, 1925 — February 25, 2015

Obituary: James Grady Wellmon, 89, of Salisbury went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He had been in declining health but death was unexpected. He was born November 23, 1925 in Rowan County, NC a son of the late Grady Monroe Wellmon and the late Ollie Rochell Smith Wellmon. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Wellmon on October 24, 2001, two sons, Danny Ray and Gerald Wellmon, brother, Willie Wellmon, and sister, Fran Davis. James was a member of North Kannapolis United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of WW2 serving with the US Navy. He retired from Cannon Mills in 1987 with 50 years of service. James was later employed by Barton Security for a number of years. James will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather. He was dedicated to his grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 1, 2015 at North Kannapolis United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Ronald E. Hartman and Pastor Bryn Waddell. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00-2:00 P.M. prior to the service. At other times they will be at their respective residences. Survivors include two sons, Douglas Wellmon (Janet) of Concord, Christopher Wellmon (Paige) of Faith, NC, one daughter, Jeanne Tarlton of China Grove, two brothers, Colen Wellmon of China Grove and Alton Wellmon of Greensboro, one sister, Ella May Measmer of China Grove, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
