Janice Gray York Byrd

Obituary: Janice Gay Byrd, age 66, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC. She was born on May 24, 1947 in Hall County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Clifford James York and Cloe Gibson York. Janice was a 1965 graduate of Nacoochee Valley High School, Sautee, Georgia. She has lived in Kannapolis since 1987. Janice was employed with nutritional services at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC for the last twenty-six years. She attended the River Church of God, Salisbury, NC. Her family fondly remembers her special love of watching & listening to birds. Also, Janice developed an interest in international music especially in Celtic things wishing she could have gone to Ireland to experience the culture. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren and spent as much time as she could with them. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a brother, James York and a brother-in-law, Guy Sloop. The funeral service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Dr. Greg Sloop and Rev. Brian McMasters. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday prior to the service. Survivors include her two daughters, Lisa M. Byrd and Tamesha J. Byrd, both of Kannapolis, NC; grandchildren, Tristian and Abby Rose; a sister, Geraldine Sloop of China Grove, NC; and her former husband, Henry E. Byrd of Kannapolis, NC; and three nieces and one nephew.
Visitation: 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday October 9, 2013 Whitley's Funeral Home.

Service: 7:00PM Wednesday October 9, 2013 Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment: Burial will be at a later date.
