Janice Faye (Whitley) Ritchie

On July 7, 2023, Janice Whitley Ritchie, loving wife and mother, passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 77.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 11 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Johnson officiating. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Skyline – Ridge Mausoleum. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Tuesday.

Janice was born on April 16, 1946, in New Albany, IN to the late Pearley and Juanita Whitley. Janice graduated from A.L. Brown High School and attended cosmetology school in Charlotte. She worked as a beautician in the Concord area for 30 years.

On the 29th of February 1964, Janice married her soulmate, Norman Anthony Ritchie. They raised one son, Jeffery Ritchie.

Janice was passionate about her faith. She was an active member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church and later joined Parkwood Baptist Church. She loved gospel music, especially anything sung by Elvis Presley. She enjoyed watching and feeding the bluebirds and hummingbirds that would visit her home every year.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband Norman Ritchie, her mother and stepfather, Juanita and Kenneth Shoemaker, her sister Linda Sherrer, her brother Bobby Moore and her grandmother Fronia Lacefield.

She is survived by her son Jeffery Ritchie, her aunt Ann Langley, her sister-in-law Joyce Ritchie, her nephew Roger Ritchie, Jr. and her cousins Donna Whitley and Mike Lacefield.
