Jean Arthurs Mcluney Luther

Obituary: Mrs. Carolyn Jean Arthurs McCluney Luther, 82, of China Grove went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 23, 2016 at Novant Health Rowan Regional Medical Center following a period of declining health. She was born December 7, 1933 in Rowan County, NC a daughter of the late Roy Arthurs and the late Mildred Elizabeth Deal Arthurs. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Robert L. McCluney. Mrs. Luther was a 1952 graduate of China Grove High School. She was the former owner/operator of China Grove Flower Shop. She had also worked for Rapers, Inc., was a bookkeeper at Grove Supply Company and a Teacher's aide at China Grove Elementary School. Jean was an active member of First United Methodist Church in China Grove. She was a member of the Williams Sunday School Class, the Young at Heart and had been a kindergarten teacher. Jean was a loving wife, mother, and sister. She is safely home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was well-known for her talent as a floral designer. Funeral services will be 2:30 P.M. Thursday, May 26, 2016 at First Methodist Church in China Grove conducted by Rev. Michael Goode. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 P.M. to 2:30 P.M. prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Survivors include her husband, Ralph Luther, whom she married May 21, 2009, and her children and grandchildren; two daughters, Anne McCluney Brown (Alvin) of Sierra Vista, Az., and Becky McCluney Lyerly (Roger) of Rockwell, son, David Lee McCluney of Harrisburg, Step-son, Scott Luther (Denise) of China Grove, Step-daughter, Trina Luther Wertz of Salisbury and a sister, Phyllis Arthurs Heilig (Donald) of China Grove. She is also survived five grandchildren: Amanda McCluney, Jordan Lyerly Diaz De Leon (Mauricio), Adam Brown (Alyssa), Anna Brown Panosian (Stephen) and Nick Lyerly. The family request that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Main Street Mission, 306 South Main Street, China Grove, NC. 28023. Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Luther.
