Jean “Mama Jean” Johnson, 96, of Concord; was received into the arms of Jesus, on Monday December 5, 2022 after a brief stay at Five Oaks Manor in Concord.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 10, at Gilwood Presbyterian Church in Concord with Rev. Charles Blasdell officiating. Her family will receive friends at the church, Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial will follow the funeral in the church cemetery.
Jean was born February 11, 1926 in Cabarrus Co., a daughter of the late Matthew M. Cline and Lena M. Mauldin Cline. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Thornwell Johnson, her sister, Joy Cline Harbin and her brother, Sonny Cline.
“Mama Jean” was survived by her loving children, grandchildren and her great-grandchildren, who will all miss her deeply. Also surviving are her younger brother, Eddie Cline (Linda) of Concord and her younger sister, Carol Cline Jenkins of Matthews.
Jean was a lifelong area resident and a longtime member of Gilwood Presbyterian Church and graduate of Odell High School. In earlier years, Jean worked with her husband at the family store, Tom Johnson Esso and Grocery Store. Later she received her ER Technician Certification and worked at NE Medical Center until she retired in 1999. “Mama Jean” was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. “Mama Jean” will be remembered for her baking skills. Her cakes and cupcakes will be dearly missed.
