Jeanne (Jenkins) Boswell

Jeanne Jenkins Boswell, 86 years old, of Kannapolis, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 20, 2024, in her home surrounded by her family. Jeanne was born on September 8, 1937, in Durham, NC to the late Theodore and Ormah Woods Jenkins.

Jeanne was a graduate of UNC Greensboro in 1959, where she received her bachelor’s degree.  Jeanne was a teacher for 26 + years in the Kannapolis City Schools, teaching Social Studies, particularly 8th grade North Carolina History. She was fortunate to know and work with many dedicated educators.  In 1990 she received The Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. In 1997 she was Kannapolis Middle School’s Teacher of the Year, and twice was named Who’s Who Among American Teachers.

Jeanne was very active in Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a member.  She loved the North Carolina Coast, particularly Morehead City and Beaufort, her flower garden and watching the birds in her yard.  Jeanne quietly loved everyone, especially her family, her many dear friends and students.

Jeanne is survived by her son, Robert Boswell and his wife Lynn, her daughters, Debi Canter and her husband Jody, Dori Swaringen and her husband Scott, and Donae Yoos and her husband Andy; her grandchildren, Meghan Traore and her husband Aziz, Jessica Swaringen, Parker Swaringen and his wife Brianna, Gabe Boswell, Matt Canter, Drew Yoos, Jacob Boswell and his wife Mallory, Lauren Yoos and Emma Boswell; her great grandchildren, Alex and Sara Traore and Paxton Swaringen, and many extended family and dear friends.

A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 6-8pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home.  A private graveside service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham where Jeanne will be laid to rest with her family.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made in Jeanne’s name to Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC, or Atrium Health Hospice & Palliative Care Cabarrus, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
