Obituary: - Jeffrey Leonard Johnson, age 44, died Friday, September 14, 2012 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC after years of declining health battling cystic fibrosis. He was born October 2, 1967 in Iredell County, NC, the son of Marvin Leonard Johnson and Eula Pauline Overcash Johnson. Jeff was a 1986 graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High School. In earlier years he worked for K & K Toys. Later, Jeff was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant #1, Finishing Dept. He also was a volunteer at the Winecoff Volunteer Fire Department for many years until his health deteriorated. When he was in high school he drove a school bus. Jeff was well crafted in using his hands making bracelets, angels, and Christmas ornaments. He was a member of Prince of Peace Freewill Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC and was very strong in his faith there with the Lord. He taught Sunday School and had been Sunday School Superintendent. He is also remembered for his love of fishing. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Chuck Overcash. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the funeral home. The family will be at the home of his parents, 2303A South Main Street, Kannapolis, the remainder of the time. Survivors in addition to his parents include his wife of 20 years, Joyce Key Johnson; his son, Kevin W. Johnson of the home; his sister, Rebecca Norris & husband, Chad of Philadelphia, TN; and his brother, Timothy Johnson & wife, Christy of Concord, NC; three nephews; and a great-niece and a great-nephew.
