Obituary: Jerome "Jerry" Phillip Leis, 77, of China Grove went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury following a period of decling health. He was born July 23, 1939 in Grays Harbor County, Washington a son of the late Phillip Leis and Bulah Leis. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a stepson, Jerry Lee Wilson, Jr. Jerry was born in Washington State and later moved to California. He served in the US Navy onboard the USS Edson. He was employed as a driver in the trucking industry until his retirement. He was a member Grace Community Church in Salisbury and had also ministered to the inmates of the Minimum Security Unit of the Piedmont in Salisbury. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 A.M. Friday, January 20, 2017 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Pastor Shane Utley. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 8:30 A.M. until 9:30 A.M. prior to the service. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery in Salisbury with military graveside rites conducted by the Rowan County Honor Guard and the US Navy. Survivors include his wife of 36 years; Marjorie Louise Mabrey Leis of the home, one son, James Leis, one daughter, Tina Leis, three stepdaughters; Crystal Wilson and Carol Carlson, both of China Grove, and Connie Kizer of Concord, two brothers, Myron and Danny Leis, one sister, Phyllis Brennan,ten step grandchildren; Jillian Jolly, Lucretia Smitherman, Aaron Ferguson, Joshua Pena, Terren Husges, Sydney Carlson, Taya Hanno, Kelsey Carlson, Tabitha Fields and Zachary Wilson.
