Obituary: Jerry Edward Lewis 73 of Kannapolis died Monday, May 5, 2014 at his residence. His death was unexpected. Mr. Lewis was born in Cabarrus County on March 27, 1941, the son of the late James Edward and Maybell Stafford Lewis. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Owens. Services celebrating the life of Mr. Lewis will be held at 2:30 PM on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel with Pastor Chris O'Guin officiating and close friend Stanley Stodard. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 PM prior to the services on Thursday at the funeral home. Jerry retired from Hoechst-Celanese as a mechanic after 33 years of service, was a veteran of the US Navy, and a member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church. He enjoyed traveling, blue grass music, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by friends and family. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 48 years, Janice Kay McGinnis Lewis of the home, a son, Todd Lewis and wife Tammy of Kannapolis, a daughter; Teena Power and husband Davey of Kannapolis, 5 grandchildren; Kayla and Kendra Power, Courtney Mann, and Alex and Blake Lewis, a great grandchild; Ethan Miller, and 3 sisters; Barbara Brock and husband Ernie, Sue Dayvault, and Mary Christian, all of Kannapolis, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The family suggest memorials be made to North Kannapolis Baptist Church, 312 Locust St. Kannapolis, NC 28081. Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com
