Jerry Clark McManus, 78, of Kannapolis passed away on Saturday morning, May 6, 2023 at The Greens at Cabarrus after an extended period of declining health.
He was born December 12, 1944 in Cabarrus County, a son to the late Erwin Clark “Buster” and Letha McManus. He attended Kannapolis City Schools (AL Brown Class of 63) until he joined the US Navy stationed in San Diego, California from 1962 to 1965.
For many years he traveled around the US working as a pipe fitter with the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. After he return to Kannapolis, he worked as a HVAC Maintenance Tech at UNC Charlotte until his retirement in 2008.
Jerry loved to read and learn. He attended classes at Auburn University and University of Georgia. He was never working toward a degree, just loved to learn. He studied Spanish, German, different religions, government laws, and genealogy as well as woodworking and HVAC. He had many and varied interests. After his retirement and some health issues, his new interest was a good recliner, take out, and a good western on TV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Forbes McManus.
He is survived by a brother, Donnie (Hope) McManus from Amelia Court House, VA; Sister, Karen Allen and brother-in-law and friend, Steve Allen of Concord, NC; Several nieces and nephews, Scott (Tammy) Carter of Ellenboro NC, Kimberly (Monty) Sellers of Harrisburg NC; and Chad Allen of Southport NC; Great nieces and nephews, Brandon Carter, Rosie Carter, Brooke Stewart, Jesse Stewart, Emma Stewart, Ryan Sellers, Cassidy Sellers and Joshua Allen.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at Carolina Memorial Park with Rev. Gene Beaver officiating.
