Obituary: Jesse Lee McDermott, age 22, of Concord died unexpectedly on June 1, 2017. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Victory Temple, 3101 Cline School Rd, Concord, NC 28025, at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 6. His family will receive friends after the service at the church. Jesse was born September 19, 1994 in Cabarrus Co., a son of James M. McDermott, Jr. and Sherri Lynn McKinney McDermott of Concord. Jesse was a life-long area resident. He was an outstanding AAU state champion for 12 years in a row in his weight class for wrestling. Jesse also wrestled for Mt. Pleasant Schools and was champion in his weight class 2 years in a row. He was educated in Cabarrus Co. School and was Valedictorian of his GED class from Morrison County Community College with high honors and his family was so proud of him for accomplishing that. Jesse worked for his father at the family business, Rocky River Core Supply. He was an amazing artist and composer of guitar music. Some of his happiest times were "jamming" on the guitar and writing music. Jesse was an outgoing, warm, loving person with the most beautiful smile. Anyone who met him instantly fell in love with him and his gentle nature. In addition to his parents, Jesse is survived his brother, James M. "Tripp" McDermott III. His paternal grandparents are James M. and Bernice McDermott, Sr. of Concord. His maternal grandparents are Donald and Virginia McKinney of Charlotte. He is also survived by 5 aunts and uncles; Joseph McDermott of Midland, Denise LaRose of Manassas VA and Jeff, Valorie and Chris McKinney of Concord.
