Jessie Smith Brooks Mason

Obituary: China Grove, NC- Jessie Smith Brooks Mason, age 92, died Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the Brian Center, Salisbury, NC after a short illness. She was born January 1, 1920 in Chesterfield County, SC, the daughter of the late Edward Harrison Smith and Flora Swanner Smith. She had been a resident of the area since 1927. Jessie was employed at the former Linn-Corriher Mills, Landis, NC for forty-one years until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of God's Tabernacle, Kannapolis, NC. Her family fondly remembers her love of sewing, cooking, and gardening. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her 1st husband, Robert Carl Brooks; her 2nd husband, Raymond D. Mason; a grandchild, and two brothers, Raymond Smith and J.C. Smith. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at West Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, China Grove, NC officiated by Rev. Jesse Overcash. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 P.M. Wednesday at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC prior to the service. Survivors include her two daughters, Judy Brooks Coley & husband, Larry and Barbara Brooks Teeter & husband, Mike, both of China Grove, NC; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.
