Obituary: Jimmy Guy Austin, Sr., age 72, of Mooresville died Monday, Jan. 11, 2009 at CMC-NorthEast Med. Center in Concord after a year of declining health A Memorial Service will be held at 5:30 PM Wednesday, January 13, 2009 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel with Rev. Mike Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 5:30 PM, at other times they will be at the residence. Jimmy was born December 16, 1937 in Rowan County the son of the late Nallie Alexander Austin and the late Bessie Vergie Lee Combs Austin. He was a lifelong resident, attending the Kannapolis City schools. In earlier years he worked for Cannon Mills Co., later he owned and operated J&J Signs with his brother Jack. He was a long time member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church. Jimmy loved his gardens, fishing, hunting and he loved his family, especially his grandkids. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Brenda Queen Austin of the family home, his daughter, Kimberly A. Miller (Harold) of Hendersonville, NC , his sons; J. "Guy" Austin, Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC and Mark Austin of Mooresville. Survivors also include grandchildren, Justin Kennedy (Carrie) of Mooresville and Jennifer Gautier (Andy) of Clinton, NC , 2 great-grandchildren, Zackary and Abby Kennedy, brother Jerry Austin of Wilmington, 2 sisters, Phyllis Edwards of Kannapolis and Patsy Long of Gastonia and Cousin Thurmon Austin (Gwen) of Landis. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Day.
