Jimmy Ray Canup, 88, of Kannapolis passed away at his home peacefully on Sunday April 9, 2023. He left his earthly home to join and celebrate with Jesus on Resurrection Sunday.
Jimmy was born April 20, 1934, in Cabarrus Co., a son of the late William and Pearl Mae Lefler Canup. In addition to his parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by his son James Ray Canup and his grandson Joseph A. Broome. He was the youngest and last surviving of 17 brothers and sisters. Jimmy was a lifelong area resident and longtime member of Charity Baptist. He was a hard working man that went to work at an early age. He was an electrician for Cannon Mills Plant One. In his spare time, he enjoyed wood-working and riding his motorcycle. He belonged to the Over the Hill Gang Motorcycle Club.
He is survived by his wife of almost 47 years, Margie L. Canup of Kannapolis, three daughters Sandra Hinton (Kenny) of Livermore, Kentucky, Robin “Ninki” Eddleman (Tim) of Kannapolis and Bonnie Broome (Darrell) of Kannapolis. Also surviving are six grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, April 13 at West Lawn Memorial Park at Mausoleum in front of Mausoleum chapel with Rev. Marty Payton officiating. His family will receive friends at the graveside an hour prior to the committal service.
