Jimmy Lee Johnson

Jimmy Lee Johnson, 69, of Rockwell, closed his eyes on earth and opened them in heaven, on Friday evening, January 7, 2022. Mr. Johnson passed away at his home, with loving family by his side, following a brief illness.

Jimmy was born August 24, 1952, in Baltimore, MD, a son of the late Perry and Mildred Aycoth Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Hooper, and a nephew, David Hooper.

Mr. Johnson retired from ARS and had earlier been a loyal employee of Canon Mills for more than 35 years. A member of Grace City Church, he also enjoyed being outdoors, the beach and spending time with his loved family. He also loved his dog, Spanky, and the two could often be seen riding together on the golf cart. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend of many, Mr. Johnson will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.

Family members left with cherished memories include his wife of 50 years, Janice Steele Johnson; his son, Mark Lee Johnson (Nikki); sister, Debbie Paxton (Danny) of Concord; brother, Larry Johnson (Vickie) of Kannapolis; his grandchildren, Camron Johnson, Hunter Cates, Isabella and Brennan Johnson; his special, much-loved niece, Tracey Wilkins (Shannon), nieces, great nieces and extended family members.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Grace City Church.  Funeral services to remember and celebrate Mr. Johnson’s life will begin at 2:00 pm in the church, conducted by Mark Murphy, Pastor. Burial will follow the services at West Lawn Memorial Park, where Mr. Johnson will be laid to rest.
