Obituary: Jimmy Eugene Pethel, age 75, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 15, 2013 from CMC-NE in Concord. His death was unexpected. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 18 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Fred Carlton officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, June 17. Jimmy was born August 30, 1937 in Rowan Co., a son of the late Mae Pethel. He was a life-long area resident and was of the Baptist faith. Jimmy was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the early '60's. He worked for many years at Cannon Mills in the #7 weave room. Later, Jimmy drove a truck for several companies, including Thurston Motor Lines, Yellow Freight and then Consolidated Freightways until retiring. Jimmy loved his family, living in Kannapolis and participating and watching sports. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. He will be missed. In addition to his mother, Jimmy was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Pethel. Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Chris Pethel of Kannapolis and Mike Pethel (Susan) of Arden; his grandsons, Matthew and Ryan Pethel; His sister, Peggy Smith of China Grove and a number of nieces and nephews and also his special friends, Mike and Edith Porter of Troutman.
