Concord-
Jo Ellen Pressley Atwell, 84, passed away Tuesday morning, December 17, 2019, at her home, following a period of declining health.
Born August 22, 1935, in Union County, she was a daughter of the late Reece Johnson Pressley and Rachel Hester Thomas Pressley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Ray Atwell; a son, Howard Reece Atwell; sister, Diane Pressley Christy; a brother, Billy Pressley, and brother-in-law, Boyce Burgess.
Affectionately known as “Maw Maw Jo Jo” to her family, she was the best stay at home mother and grandmother. Mrs. Atwell loved going to the dollar store, flea markets and yard sales. A loving and devoted, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mrs. Atwell will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Loving family members include her daughter, Sherry Atwell Turner, of Concord; her son, Kenneth Ray “Kenny” Atwell and wife, Christine, of Kannapolis; sister, Sue Pressley Burgess; her brother, Craig Pressley (Sue); her much loved grandchildren, Brantley Turner (Angelique), of Mooresville, Bethany Bostic (David II) of Concord, Nicole Atwell Soto (Arturo) of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Michelle Atwell Shook of Ohio, Robert Atwell (Anna) of Mt. Pleasant and Chase Atwell of Kannapolis; her great-grandchildren, Brantley, Shayleigh and Zoe Turner, David and Corey-Jo Bostic, and Liam, Mia and Owen Soto; brother-in-law, Don Christy; nieces and nephews, Don Christy, Jr.,(Lisa Ellis), Cheryl McCormick (Andy), Tammy Smith (Eric), Boyce Burgess Jr. (Joy), Michael Burgess and Mark Burgess (Sarah), Donald Atwell Jr. (Marcia), Tina Valdez (Angel), and Angie Tedder (Ray); brother-in-law, Don Atwell (Jean); and her special caretakers, Sheila Padilla, Misty Jones, Tamara Oliver; and the Atrium Hospice Care Team-Jennifer (RN), Rebecca (CNA) and Megan (CNA).
The family will receive friends Friday, December 20th from 10:30-11:00 am at Connect Christian Church, 3101 Davidson Hwy, Concord, NC 28027. Services to remember and celebrate the life of Mrs. Atwell will begin at 11:00 am in the church, conducted by Pastor James Kuhl. Mrs. Atwell will be laid to rest with her husband at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord.
