Obituary: Jo Carol Hines Sloop, age 65, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House, Huntersville, NC after a short illness.She was born September 11, 1945 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late Paul Washington Hines and Pearl Cylena Chapman Hines. Jo Carol finished her race by serving the Lord faithfully as church secretary of Charity Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC for 20 years. In earlier years she worked for the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant # 1 & Plant #16 for many years until becoming church secretary. She was a charter member of Charity Baptist Church where she had sung in the choir, cleaned and maintained the facilities, and served in numerous phases of church activities. She is fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a nephew, Jimmy Hines; a sister-in-law, Barbara Hines; and her special pet, Babey.A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held 7:30 P.M. Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Charity Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Marty Payton, Dr. R.J. Hammond, and Rev. Ron Bushey. A graveside entombment service will be held at 3:30 P.M. Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, NC. The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. prior to the service. The family will be at the residence the remainder of the time. Survivors include her husband of twenty-eight years, Bruce G. Sloop; three daughters, Tammy Winecoff & husband, David of Kannapolis, NC, Deanie Watts & partner, Kevin Trull of Mt. Holly, NC, and Amy Mason & husband, William of Statesville, NC; a son, Rorry Sloop & wife, Donya of Gastonia, NC; Eight grandchildren, Kristen Winecoff, Billy Winecoff, Justin Mason, Michael Mason, Rylan Sloop, Karson Sloop, Maddie Sloop, and Kevin Trull;Four brothers, Buddy Hines and Herbert Hines, both of Kannapolis, NC, Harold Hines of Phenix City, AL, and James Hines of China Grove, NC;Two sisters, Betty Scarborough of Kannapolis, NC and Doris DeBoe of Concord, NC; and a number of loving nieces and nephews.Memorials may be made to Charity Baptist Church, 2420 Brantley Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
