Obituary: Joann Maness Cartner, 81, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017 unexpectedly at her home. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Tuesday, May 9 at Whitley's Funeral Home. A private family graveside will be held at a later time. She was born April 13, 1936 in Rowan County to the late Virginia Kincaid Lisk and Everette Lee Maness. Joann was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert M. Cartner, Jr. Those left to cherish her memory, her children; Nelda Croom (Penn), Leigh Ann Marshall (Gary), Penny Fisher (Jim), Robert E. Cartner (Xiaolin Mao); grandchildren David Croom (Nicole), Anna Croom, Brent Raymer, Hayden Untz, Katie Cartner; great grandson, Max Croom. Joann graduated from A.L. Brown High School in 1954 and enjoyed participating with fellow alumni for their quarterly luncheons. She was a longtime member of Parkwood Baptist Church. After retiring from Cannon Mills (44 yrs.) she attended Brunswick Islands Baptist Church and was currently a member of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Marion Winslow Chapter #349 OES. She loved the Lord, her family and friends, Holden Beach, watching birds, tending her flowers, and knitting. Joann was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, caring friend and Mentor to many. Memorials may be made to Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, 900 Klondale Ave., Kannapolis, NC 28081.
