Joann Hornbeak Meggison

Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- JoAnn Hornbeak Meggison, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Carolinas Healthcare System-NorthEast, Concord, NC after a lengthy illness. She was born September 29, 1936 in Rowan County, NC, the daughter of the late Charles Lee Hornbeak and Mary Helen Ervin Hornbeak. In earlier years JoAnn worked at the former Terry Products, Inc. in Kannapolis, NC. In later years was co-owner of the former Pethel's Chrysler Plymouth dealership in Mooresville, NC for many years. Still later, she also for some time at the former Cannon Mills Company. She was thought of as a devoted caregiver who loved her family and was very giving to all of them. JoAnn was also a woman that loved fishing finding time to enjoy that hobby when she could. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by one son, Frankie Pethel, Jr.; and two grandsons, Jamie Pethel and Jason Swink. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. George Morris. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include her husband of fifteen years, Thomas P. Meggison; two brothers, Ray Hornbeak & wife, Mary and Preston Hornbeak & wife, Terrie; and one sister, Linda McCombs & husband, Steve, all of Kannapolis, NC; one daughter, Trina Poe of Kannapolis, NC; one grandson, Phillip Poe; three step-children; and a number of nieces & nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Carolinas Healthcare System-NorthEast and Brian Center of Concord, NC for their love and support during the illness of our sister and wife.
