Joanne Fowler Brooks

Joanne Rebecca Fowler Brooks, aged 75, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2024, in Concord, NC. Born on December 14, 1948, Joanne was a loving mother, sister, and friend, deeply committed to her faith which sustained her throughout her illness.

Joanne graduated from Durham High School in 1967 and pursued further education at Mitchell College, earning a degree in Business Administration. Her career spanned several notable positions, beginning at Duke Student Housing, before joining IBM in Concord. She later worked for Wachovia and retired from Piedmont Behavioral Health. Post-retirement, Joanne dedicated her time as a volunteer with the American Red Cross in Cabarrus County, where she was honored as Volunteer of the Year for her hard work. Her commitment to helping others was evident in her active participation in disaster assignments and deployments and accepting her own deployments.

Married in 1968 to the love of her life, Donnie R. Brooks, who preceded her in death, Joanne was a cherished figure in her family. She is survived by her son, Greg Brooks (Jenn) of Tampa, FL; daughter, Shannon Brooks Kvist (Benji) of Albemarle, NC; granddaughters, Delaney and Caitlin Brooks; great-grandchildren, Kenley, Julia, and Harrison Hash; siblings, Marshall Fowler (Gloria), Barbara Fowler Garmon, and Shirley Fowler; along with several loving nieces and nephews. Joanne was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Burden; parents, Auburn and Judith Fowler; and brother, Tommy Fowler.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 an hour and half before the 2:30 p.m. service at Whitley Funeral Home. Immediately after the service, Joanne's ashes will be interred at the Carolina Memorial Park cemetery.
