Obituary: Joanne Hodges Hodge, age 78, of Kannapolis, went to be with her Lord on August 3, 2013 with her family by her side. Joanne was born in Dobson NC on September 29, 1934, a daughter of the late Bill and Gertrude Hodges. She graduated from Dobson High School and Forsyth Memorial School of Nursing-Winston Salem with her RN. Joanne worked in hospitals in Whiteville, Charlotte and the VA Hospital in Winston Salem. She was a nurse for 28 years with the Tuttle Family Practice with Dr. Marler Tuttle and Dr. John Tuttle. She worked for almost 50 years as a nurse which was one of her joys in life, because she loved helping people. Joanne loved her patients and her many friends! She was an active member at First Presbyterian Church and loved her church family especially her Sunday school class that was taught by Frank Gibson. The love of her life was the Lord, first and then her late husband of 56 years, Dan Hodge, who passed in Jan. of 2012. He was her good and faithful companion. She was also preceded in death by her brother Louis Curtis Hodges. She is survived by her 3 children; David Hodge and wife, Jill of Wichita, KS, Steve Hodge of Kannapolis and Susan Hodge Thomas of Concord and her 5 grandchildren; Lauren Hodge Davis and Bill Hodge of Wichita, Jamin Hodge of Kannapolis and Alex and William Thomas of Concord. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Bette Hodge of Richmond VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, August 7 at Whitley's Funeral Home and her funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, August 8 at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
