Joe Banks Allman

Obituary: Joe Banks Allman, 81, of Landis passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at his home. He was born August 6, 1931 in Stanly County, the son of the late Cleatus W. Allman and the late Ollie Blackwelder Allman Daubenspeck. He was preceded in death by his step father, Rev. Wayne Daubenspeck and a step brother, Henry Daubenspeck. He retired from Dominion Yarn in Landis in 1996. He was a veteran of the US Air Force during the Korean war. He was a member of First Reformed Church in Landis. He had been past president of the Cannon YMCA Grimes Y's Men club, former president of the Landis Lions Club, served as Registrar for Rowan County Board of Elections and was on the Landis Town Board for many years. He also served as President of the Rowan County Schools Vocational Committee for many years. He coached Little League baseball for a number of years. He was an Eagle Scout and served as a scout master for a number of years. He was active member in his church community and enjoyed singing in the choir and serving on various committees throughout the years. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at First Reformed Church, Landis officiated by Rev. David Franks and Rev. Gerald Baucom. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Monday at Whitley's Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Wanda Baucom Allman, son, Alan C. Allman of Mooresville, daughter, Angela Allman of Salisbury, grandchildren; Shea N. Walker of Charlotte, Chase Tyler Walker(Kathryn) of China Grove, Zachary Banks Allman of San Diego, Ca., Zari Ann Allman of Mooresville, brother, Gary Allman of Gastonia, step-brother, Richard Daubenspeck (Lois) of Virginia, step sister, Ruth Kistler (Keith) of Virginia and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children Medical Center, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tn. 38105 and/or First Reformed Church, 210 N. Central Ave., Landis, NC 28088.
Visitation: 7:00-9:00PM, Monday May 6, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home.

Service: 2:00PM, Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at First Reformed Church, Landis.

Interment: Carolina Mem. Park.
