Joe Reid Fisher

Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Joe Reid Fisher, age 86, went home to be with the Lord he loved on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC.He was born October 3, 1925 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Charles A. Fisher and Lucy Freeze Fisher. Joe was a 1943 graduate of Winecoff High School.Joe was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Main Office, Payroll Dept. for many years until his retirement in 1988. He was an active member of Memorial United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC for 63 years where he was church treasurer, on the administrative council, and other phases of church activities. Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Necie Safrit Fisher; one brother, Charles Fisher, Jr.; and his sisters, Marlyn Lowery, Hazel Thompson, and Marie Sims. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Memorial United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Jim Brookshire. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence the remainder of the time.Survivors include three daughters, Christy Cheverton & husband, Rick of Knoxville, TN, Susan Basinger & husband, Ricky of Salisbury, NC, and Jo Carol McGill of Asheville, NC; four granddaughters, Necie Ann Russell & husband, Adam, Roxie Deloney & husband, Adam, Lacey Cherverton, and Tess McGill; three grandsons, Lee Basinger & wife, Cole, Luke Cheverton, Heath Cheverton & wife, Jessica; and three great-grandchildren, Caden Cheverton, Jaiden Cheverton, and Charlotte Russell; and two great-grandchildren on the way.Memorials may be made to Memorial United Methodist Church, 1100 West C Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.On-line condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com.
