Joe Russell Winder

Joe Russell Winder, 72, of Kannapolis, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, April 23, 2023 after a period of declining health.

Joe was born on January 7, 1951 in Athens, TN to the late Kenneth Russell Winder and Glenda Foster Winder. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Winder and brother, Reed Winder.

Joe spent his career as a maintenance technician for Philip Morris. He proudly won the chess championship at Phillip Morris every year until he retired. He enjoyed spending time outside on the porch and was a fan of astronomy. Joe was an excellent storyteller and could always keep a captive audience with his passion and charisma. He was hilarious, knew how to have a good time, and he had family’s back no matter what. He dearly loved his family and will be deeply missed.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 41 years; Terri Winder; three children, Jennifer Winder, Hayley Winder, and Rusty Winder, and a brother, James Edward Winder.

A private family memorial gathering is being planned at a later date.
