Obituary: Joel Corriher, age 94, of China Grove died Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the NC State Veteran's Home in Salisbury. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday, June 7. His funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 8 at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, with Rev. Mark Burns officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in China Grove. Joel was born March 26, 1921 in Rowan Co., a son of the late William A. Corriher, Sr. and Mary R. McLaughlin Deal Corriher. Joel was a life-long area resident and an active member of Mt. Zion UCC. He was a proud veteran of WWII, serving in the US Navy and was a member of the VFW Post 8989, Kannapolis. Joel was a life-long farmer and also worked for Linn - Corriher after WWII until retiring in 1983. In addition to his parents, Joel was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Wilson Corriher in 1999, his grandson, Daniel Joel Kirk in 1991, and 8 siblings. Those left to cherish his memories include his 2 daughters; Kathleen Kirk and Emogene Safrit, his sister, Mary Sloan Flowers and his brother, William A. "Wild Bill" Corriher, all of China Grove, his 4 grandchildren; Tim Kirk, John Safrit, Jr., Aaron Kirk, Joshua Safrit and 8 great-grandchildren; Patrick Safrit, Nicholas Safrit, Joel Safrit, Trilby Kirk, Kaileigh Kirk, Jagger Kirk, Colt Safrit and Daniel E.
