Obituary: Joel Dean Voyles, 60, of 2335 Saw Road, China Grove, NC died on Oct. 28, 2013 at CMC-NorthEast in Concord, NC. Joel was born on September 8, 1953 in Cabarrus Co., NC the son of the late Hugh Lee Voyles and the late Ruth Bost Voyles. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War proudly serving with the United States Marines. He was a Truck Driver for forty years with a number of companies but most recently with Jevic Transportation, Oakley Transportation and last with Snyder Transportation. Joel had a strong passion his grandchildren who called him, "Papa Joe", and for the Golf Course. Survivors include his wife, Judy Childers Voyles of the home; 1 son, Joseph Voyles (Angie) of Kannapolis, 2 daughters; Angela Carrillo (Daniel) of Palm Bay, FL, Amy Griffin (Chris) of China Grove, NC, 4 step-daughters; Deana Honeycutt (Rodney) of Kannapolis, Susan Hamlett (Ralph) of Canton, NC, Robin Smith (Rodney) and Penny Manus (Jason) both of China Grove, 18 grandchildren, 2 brothers; Tommy Voyles (Janet) and Jimmy Voyles (Libby), 2 sisters; Betty Blackmon (Jimmy) and Cathy Tocciola. The funeral service for Mr. Voyles will take place at 1:00 PM, Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Robert Howard and Rev. Mike Edwards. Burial will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends from 11-1:00 Thursday before the service. The family would like to remember the staff of Intermediate Care at NE Medical Center for the compassion and care they showed to Joe and his family during his stay at NE.
