Obituary: John Wayne (J.W.) Blackwelder, 92, of Kannapolis passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the Tucker Hospice House. He was born September 28, 1922 in Iredell County, the son of the late Carl Columbus Blackwelder and Emmie Campbell Blackwelder. J.W. was retired from Cannon Mills where he worked as a superintendent of the Village Maintenance Department. He was a veteran of WW II US Army Air Corps. He was a member of the American Legion Post 115. He was a member of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church where he was a former elder and Sunday school teacher. He liked woodworking, gardening, dogs and puzzles of all kinds. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Debbie Madden. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Plaza Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 PM prior at Whitley's. He is survived by daughter, Bonnie B. Culp (Eric) of Gold Hill, 3 sons, W. Glenn Blackwelder (Toni) of Fishers, Indiana, David Blackwelder and Dennis Blackwelder both of Kannapolis and grandchildren, Amanda, Andrew, Rachel and Ryan.
