Obituary: John Wayne Brand, 60, of Kannapolis passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at CMC-NorthEast. He was born September 5, 1953 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of the late C B Brand and Lucille McKay Brand. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Vietnam War era. He was working part-time at O'Reilly Auto Parts in Salisbury and at Kay's Jewelers at Concord Mills. He was a member of Crossroads Church in Concord. He loved to dance, sing karaoke and listening to gospel and country music. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Thursday, Jan. 30th at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Matt Delph. Burial will follow at 2:00 PM at the Salisbury National Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at Whitley's. He is survived by his wife, Betsy Hollis Brand, three children, Tonya Brand, Chad Brand and Nathan Brand, his sister, LouAnn Lowry of Indiana, two step-children, Amanda Finley (Jeremy) and Josh Hollis (Jennifer) and 5 step-grandchildren.
