Obituary: John Arthur Brown, 88, of Concord died May 31, 2017 at St. Andrews Assisted Living Center. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, June 3 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church with Rev. Cheryl Skinner and Rev. Wes Judy officiating. His family will receive friends prior to the memorial service, at the church from 3:00 to 4:00 PM. Burial will take place at a later date. John was born March 11, 1929 in Milwaukee WI, a son of the late John A. and Anna Klafka Brown. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked for IBM for 31 years, retiring in 1987. John's work with IBM moved him from Michigan to New York, then to Alabama, finally settling in North Carolina. He was a long time member of Mt. Olivet UMC where he served as a trustee and travelled to Kenya 4 times on church mission projects. John travelled with his wife, Mary Ann, to all lower 48 states and most of Europe. He loved golfing. After retiring, he played almost every week-day, until he turned 80. John also enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, boating and bowling. He will be dearly missed by his family. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ann Brock Brown, his daughters; Jill Calvert (Doug) of Clarksville GA, Mary Alice Cochran (David) of Bessemer AL, Laura Adams (Jerry) of Charlotte and Diana Brant (Jim) of Kannapolis, his 8 grandchildren; Elizabeth, Rebecca, David Jr., Brock, Nick, Mason, Jacob and Lee and 4 great-grandchildren, Tre`, Brooke, Olivia and Elijah. The Brown family wishes to thank their St. Andrews Assisted Living Center "Family" and the staff at Hospice and Palliative Care of Lake Norman for the loving care shown to John and family, during his time with them.
