John Pruitt Carter, Jr.

Obituary: John Pruitt Carter, Jr., 79, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Big Elm Retirement following a long illness. John was born May 5, 1937 in Cabarrus County, NC a son of the late John Pruitt Carter, Sr. and the late Nora Elizabeth Melton Carter. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Pruitt Carter. John was a machinist for Duff Norton of Charlotte for many years and later worked for Purser Central Rewinding in Concord. He was of the Southern Baptist Faith. John was an amateur astronomer, ham radio operator, coin and stamp collector, a gifted amateur artist and enjoyed using his metal detector. Survivors include two daughters, Tajon Chappell and husband Jerry of Charlotte and Tara McDaniel and husband Mark of Kannapolis, one brother Charles Carter and wife Rhoda of Kannapolis, one sister Brenda Wilson of Winston-Salem. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon Monday, May 16, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Chris O'Guin. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00 Monday prior to the service.
