Obituary: John Gary Donahue, 38, of Concord died at his residence on July 1, 2015. Death was unexpected. John was born on January 3, 1977 in Cabarrus County, the son of the late Nelda Price Donahue and Gary E. Donahue of Concord. In addition to his mother he is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Pauline Price and his paternal grandfather, Claude H. Donahue. First and foremost, John was the "1977 New Year Baby" for Kannapolis, North Carolina. He earned two Bachelor of Art degrees in four years from U.N.C.-Chapel Hill. For the last fourteen years, he worked for icons of the American food industry (Pillsbury, Hormel Foods, Tastykake) and Fortune 500 retailers (Food Lion and Family Dollar) and most recently worked for Acoasta Marketing in Charlotte. He was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church, loved to travel and dearly loved his daughter and family. John is survived by his daughter, Riley Elizabeth Shimp-Donahue of Charlotte; a brother, Timothy Warren Donahue of Virginia Beach, VA; his father, Gary E. Donahue of Concord; his aunt, Nelda A. Donahue of Kannapolis and his paternal grandmother, Lila W. Donahue of Kannapolis and maternal grandparents Van and Jan Price. The service for Mr. Donahue will take place at 2pm Monday, July 6, 2015, graveside service at Carolina Memorial Park conducted by Rev. Darrel Coble. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 12-1:45pm, Monday before the graveside service.
