John Ludwick Goodnight

Obituary: John Ludwick Goodnight, 88, of Kannapolis, died Thursday, April 19, 2012 at his residence. Death was unexpected. He was born September 1, 1923 in Moore County, NC a son of the late Wattson Grover and Luvenia Ludwick Goodnight. He was employed at Cannon Mills Plant #1, Finishing Dept. until his retirement in 1986. He was an active member of Lakewood Baptist Church where he had served on the Board of Deacons for 40 years, and was a Sunday School teacher. He also was active in the Derrick Road Truck Stop Ministry in Salisbury. John was a veteran of the US Army serving during WW2, a life member of the DAV and VFW Post 55. He also was a member of Cannon Memorial Lodge #626 AF& AM since 1965, where he had served as Master in 1972 and was a certified lecturer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, JB, William and Doyle Goodnight and sister Daisy Nesbitt. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Vera Wilson Goodnight of the home, two sons, John W. Goodnight and Jeff L. (Patricia) Goodnight both of Kannapolis, and three grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Goodnight, Eric Zebulon Goodnight and Brad Goodnight. Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Josh Hughes and Rev. Don Davis. The family will receive friends 12:00-1:00 P.M. Saturday prior to the funeral service. At other times they will be at the residence. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Cannon Lodge #626.
