Obituary: KANNAPOLIS - John Wayne Hammitt, age 77 of Kannapolis gained his Heavenly reward and was reunited with his Mother Vera, Sisters, Hazel Gentle and Peggy Crowder after many years of declining health on September 18th at Universal Health Care in Concord, John was born January 7, 1940 in Cabarrus County, NC. He was the son of Carl and Vera Hammitt. He was preceded in death by his sisters. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. John was a fun loving man that enjoyed MLB specifically the Atlanta Braves and an avid NASCAR fan cheering for Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr. every Sunday. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 pm at the home of his Niece Roxane Honeycutt, 497 Debra Circle SW, Concord, NC 28025 on Saturday, the 23th of September. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be sent to the donor's choice.
