John Wayman Hancock, 65, of Kannapolis, passed away, Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Atrium Health Cabarrus. Born June 23, 1955 in Mecklenberg County, he was the son of the late John Harvey Hancock and Marie Christina Rohling.
John graduated from Garinger High School. He studied English and History at University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He also studied History at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC.
During his working years, John was a Model Builder for Duke Power and a Model Builder and Designer for Sargent and Lundy. His passion though, was the many years he spent as a History Professor at his alma mater, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
John is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Turico of Kannapolis; a sister Elizabeth Hancock Stadler; and extended family members residing in Germany. Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving grandmother, Undine Redden Hancock and his grandfather, Oros Hancock.
It was John’s expressed wish that there not be a formal service.
