Obituary: Mr. John Ervin Lindsay, 74 of the Enochville Community, died Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at the NC Lutheran Home, Trinity Oaks, Salisbury following a period of declining health.He was born July 14, 1937 in Rowan County, a son of the late Mark Ervin and Minnie Green Lindsay. Mr. Lindsay proudly served his county in the US Army, 101st Airborne Division in the late 1950's. John was an owner/operator of an automobile body and paint shop and also had several small businesses. He later retired from Freightliner Company in Cleveland, NC. He enjoyed camping, playing his guitar and singing.Funeral services will be 7:30 P.M. Friday, September 9, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Dr. Malbert Smith. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-7:30 P.M. prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence. Interment will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.Mr. Lindsay was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Elizabeth Corl Lindsay who died January 25, 2008, two brothers, Floyd F. "Bud" Green and John Henry Green and two sisters, Jean Lindsay Stackleather and Ellen "Merle" J. Overcash. Survivors include two sons, Rev. John M. (Cheri) Lindsay of Monroe, and Rev. Jeff W. (Jennifer) Lindsay of Hickory, a sister, Peggy Lindsay Smith of Durham, four grandchildren, Alyssa and Jessica Lindsay and Jacob and Joshua Lindsay.
