Obituary: John Frank May, 86, of 501 Eddleman Rd., Kannapolis, NC died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010 at the Hospice Unit at V.A. Hospital in Salisbury. He was born June 12, 1924 in Stanly County, the son of the late Thomas Earnest May and Maggie Lou Layton May. He was preceded in death by his wife, Amylea Eddleman May in 1999. Frank was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He had worked and retired from A& P grocery in the area for 33 years. He was a member of Center Grove Lutheran Church where he had been active in various church activities including Head of Ushers, Church Council member, active in his Sunday school class and cooking for numerous church events. Frank loved playing golf and watching his son and grandchildren play ball through the years. He also loved going to the mountains and fishing at the beach. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday at Center Grove Lutheran Church officiated by Rev. Loyd Ginn. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 at the church. At other times they will be at the home. He is survived by 3 children: Christy M. Whitley (Mike) of Norwood, Penny M. Hargett of the home, and Johnny May (Kelly) of Kannapolis, 5 grandchildren: Stephen Whitley, Amy Cohen, Mandy Ritchie, Dillon May and Maggie May, 6 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
