John Walter Mcdonald, Jr.

John Walter McDonald, Jr., 76 of China Grove, N.C. went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at his residence following a period of declining health.

He was born September 16, 1946 in Cabarrus County, N.C. a son of the late John Walter McDonald, Sr. and Inez Mary Price McDonald.

John was a long haul truck driver and trainer for D.M. Bowman Trucking headquartered in Hagerstown, Maryland. He retired with 25 years of service and received an award for over one million miles of safe driving. He was a graduate of A.L Brown High School

He was a US Army Veteran having served in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive as a Sgt., receiving the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, June 12, 2023 at Greenlawn Cemetery in China Grove conducted by Rev. Dennis Morgan. The family will receive friends at Whitley’s Funeral Home one hour prior to the graveside service.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Rowan County Honor Guard and US Army.

Family members left to cherish his memory include his son, Ryan McDonald (Julie Butts Dobbins) of China Grove and a grandson Elin Andrew McDonald. He is also survived by one brother, David Neal McDonald of Kannapolis. He was also survived by Barry the beagle.

In Lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the Veteran’s Association of the donor’s choice.
