John Lee Newell

Obituary: John Newell, age 75, of Kannapolis, formerly of Charlotte, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at his home after a period of declining health. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, March 4 at Charity Baptist Church in Kannapolis, with Rev. Marty Payton, Rev. Ron Bushey and Rev. R.J. Hammond officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 PM Tuesday prior to the memorial service John was born March 8, 1938 in Mecklenburg Co., a son of the late D.P. and Cora Lee Newell. He was a 3rd generation Charlotte Fire fighter, retiring after 29 years of service. He was a member at Charity Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. John loved his family dearly and is loved dearly in return. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Christine K. Newell of the family home, his sons; Richard Newell (Jennifer) of Landis, David Newell (Jodi) of Lexington, Robert Keziah (Alicia) of Rockwell, his daughters; Alice Tomlinson (Jon) of Kingstree, SC and Pam Killian (Jerry) of China Grove. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, his brother, Brice Newell (Judy) of Mint Hill and his sister, Terry Smith of Charlotte Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com.
