Obituary: John Francis Oates Jr., 77, formerly of Belle Air Beach, Fla. and White Oak, Pa. died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at CMC-Northeast Medical Center, Concord, following a period of declining health. He was born September 12, 1935 in Allegheny Co. Pa. son of the late John Francis Oates, Sr.and the late Madeline Marie Reese Oates. Mr. Oates was a graduate of Michigan State University and while residing in White Oak, Pa. he and his father owned and operated American Fuel Company. He and his wife later moved to Belle Air Beach, Fla. where he was a partner with Sea Oats Reality. John was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Clearwater. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Elder Oates, one daughter, Elizabeth Anne Oates (Andrejchak) of Concord, three sons, Jeffrey (Shelly) Oates of King of Prussia, Pa., David (Laurie) Oates of Largo, Fla. and Patrick Oates of Belle Air Bluffs, Fla. Seven grandchildren also survive. There will be a memorial service to celebrate his life held at a later date at St. Joseph's the Greater Catholic Church, Concord, conducted by Rev. Father Joseph Dionee, C.Ss.R. The family will be at the residence of the daughter, Elizabeth Anne Oates (Andrejchak) of Concord where the family will receive friends following the service. In Lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to St. Celcilia Catholic Church, 820 Jasmine Way, Clearwater, Fla. 33756 or to the National Kidney Foundation, 4701 Hedgemore Drive, Suite 810, Charlotte, NC 28209-3842 Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Oates.
