John Christian Sherrill, 68, of Concord, passed unexpectedly at his home on October 5, 2020.
A memorial service will be held at Epworth United Methodist Church at 5pm on October 15. The
memorial will be streamed live on Epworth’s website for those unable to attend.
John was born November 16, 1951 in Cabarrus Co., a son of the late Carl Tony Sherrill and
Marie Helms Sherrill. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Shelia
Louise Basinger Sherrill and his sister, Martha Sherrill.
John was a lifelong area resident and member of Epworth United Methodist Church and
enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a teacher and home bound tutor in the Cabarrus County
School System for over 30 years, and also served the county as a nationally registered
paramedic. He held a Masters Degree in Education and was an Appalachian State University
and UNCC alumni. He loved visiting the North Carolina mountains and the Outer Banks with his
family. He took pride in being a carpenter, mechanic, and handy man whenever his children
needed, as well as being a member of Epworth’s choir with his late wife Shelia.
He is survived by his three sons Matthew Sherrill, Brad Sherrill (Laura) and Daniel Sherrill
(Elizabeth); his four grandsons, Sandon, Alexander, Hunter and Hampton, two granddaughters,
Addie Mae and Ella and his great-granddaughter, Talulah. He is also survived by three brothers;
Tony Sherrill of Taylor SC, Gene Sherrill of Winston Salem and Bill Sherrill, and two sisters,
Susan Davis and Jenny Penninger, all of Kannapolis and many nieces and nephews.
