John A. Sweat, Sr.

Obituary: John A. Sweat, Sr. age 81, went to his Heavenly Home December 25th, 2017 from his home in Kannapolis after his battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on November 9th, 1936 in Marion Co. SC, a son of the late Walter and Martha Berry Sweat and was the last living sibling of nine sisters and two brothers. John was also preceded in death by his daughter Tammy Renee Sweat Burnett. John received his education in the Marion Co. Schools and then went to RCCC to graduate with a two year business degree. He took great pride in serving his country in the Air Force being a firefighter with Strategic Air Command at Fairchild AFB, Washington and his Military Awards include the National Defense Service Medal. John served his community working for Belks, Food Lion and being a Mail Clerk for the US Postal Service for over 24 years. He was a faithful member of Kannapolis Westside Church of The Nazarene. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Brenda M. Sweat, his sons; John A. Sweat, Jr. (Dana) and Kevin D. Sweat (Jennifer) and his grandchildren; Tripp Burnett, Brittany and Brandon Sweat, Savannah and Serena Sweat and Loren Coleman. Funeral services will be held at 4:30 PM Sunday, December 31st at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Dodd Parrish, Jonathon Parrish and Mark White officiating. Private burial will follow at a later date. His family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:30 PM Sunday at Whitley's Funeral Home.
