Obituary: Mr John Gaither Teague, Jr. of Kannapolis, NC passed away December 29, 2017 at the age of 95. J.G. (John), was born April 18, 1922 in Valdese, NC. J.G. was the oldest of 16 children born to John Gaither Teague, Sr. and Lela Munday Teague of Granite Falls, NC. J.G. was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Teague, his wife, Charlotte Barlowe Teague, his daughter Cindy T. Goetz, two sons, John Teague and Roger Teague, five brothers, Bill, Thad, Joe, Fred and Benny Teague, five sisters, Martha T. Donkel, Peggy T. Lentz, Judy T. Killian, Beckie Teague and Rachel T. Robinson, three nieces, Kristie Childers, Beth and Sharon Mitchum, and a nephew, David Teague. Mr. Teague is survived by his daughter, Gina T. Mancillas and her husband Fernando, of Sicklerville, NJ, a grandson, Barrett Goetz and a granddaughter, Courtney Goetz of Minnesota, two brothers, James Teague of Granite Falls, NC and Jack Teague and his wife Elaine of Cummings, GA, three sisters, Betty T. Church of Valdese, NC, Linda T. McNeely and her husband Calvin of Hildebran, NC, and Jane T. Yount and her husband, Wade of Hickory, NC. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and nephews, and many great-great nieces and nephews. John Teague was a member of First Baptist Church in Kannapolis, NC, a Mason, a graduate of Granite Falls High School, and a member of the American Legion. He retired as a Sgt. in "District F", Drivers License Division, of the NC Department of Motor Vehicles, and perhaps most importantly, was a veteran, U.S. Army Sgt. in WWII. "Our" American hero. Visitation will be on Monday, January 1, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Whitley's Funeral Home, 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd, Kannapolis, NC and from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Tuesday prior to services. Due to construction at First Baptist Church, the funeral service will be held at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, around 2:30 p.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Park, Lenoir, NC. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC, or to Parkinson's research, or to Susan G. Komen Foundation, for breast cancer research.
