John Wilhelm Untiedt

Obituary: John Wilhelm Untiedt, 72, of Concord died Friday Dec. 18, 2009 at Britthaven of Piedmont in Albemarle. He was born June 15, 1937 in Orange County, Vermont the son of the late John W. and Marion MacDougal Untiedt. A memorial service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the Concord Seventh-day Adventist Church , 2141 Highway 49 N, Concord, NC. The family will receive friends after the service at church. He had worked most of his life in building material sales. He enjoyed stock car racing and was Chief Steward for NASCAR North for many years. He helped build Thunder Road Speedway in Barre, VT. He loved doing volunteer work. He worked for many years as a volunteer for the Red Cross Blood service in Concord, also volunteered as the Cannon YMCA family adoption contact person at Christmas time and at the Food pantry in Kannapolis. He also enjoyed doing word search puzzles. He is survived by his wife Elaine G. Untiedt of Concord, NC, two sons: Jon and wife Mimi of Salisbury, NC, Jeffrey and wife Kim of Plainfield, Vt., his daughter Jan Thigpen and husband Jackie of Naugatuck, CT, two step-daughters Rhonda Drought and husband Dave of Concord, NC and Sonya Glavin and husband Steve of Creedmoor, NC, 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and his former wife Norma U. Chamberlain of Salisbury, NC. Memorials may be made in memory of John to the American Red Cross of Cabarrus County % Nancy Linton, Director 167 Union St., Concord, NC 28025 or to the Britthaven of Piedmont Nursing Home 33426 Old Salisbury Rd., Albemarle, NC 28001-8342. +Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis handling arrangements.
