John Michael Winecoff, Jr., 76, of Albemarle passed away at Tucker Hospice House on Tuesday April 18, 2023, after a period of declining health. His family will be holding a celebration of life gathering on Saturday, April 22nd from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Helderman Cottage 1024 N. 2nd St., Albemarle, NC 28001.
John was born November 25, 1946, the son of the late John M. Winecoff, Sr. and Beatrice Cartner Winecoff. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Bonnie Watts Winecoff, his 2 daughters, Amy (Joe) Winecoff of Austin, TX and Carrie (Joey) Winecoff Shevelson of Seattle, WA, and his 2 beloved grandchildren, Josie and Max Shevelson. John was born and raised in Kannapolis. He attended Shady Brook Elementary School and A. L. Brown High School and graduated from the University of North Carolina Charlotte. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War where he learned to program computers decades before that was cool. John was an avid golfer and an award-winning skeet shooter. He was known for his smoked meats and was considered a consummate pitmaster. He loved a good joke and would not hesitate to share it in person or online.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in his name to the Stanly County Humane Society at 2049 Badin Rd., Albemarle, NC 28001.
